Why We Fund Many cultural initiatives fall outside existing avenues of funding, whether due to their cross-regional reach, defiance of clear categorization, collaborative or communal methods, or focus outside discursive trends. Additionally, most sources of funding, arts or otherwise, are concentrated in the Global North. The Seasons Fund aims to fill such gaps.

The Fund believes the promise of meritocracy most arts funding operates under is harmful. Therefore, grants from the Fund are not designed to convey prestige or act as a signifier of merit, but simply to ensure the viability of projects that support cultural justice—building a world in which cultural contributions of people from all social and economic backgrounds are equally valued.

Concurrently, the Seasons Fund supports grassroots organizations around the globe working towards social and environmental justice at large. We believe this work is an integral part of cultural justice, as the coalescent and interrelated crises of the present has created conditions that make it even harder for those working in the cultural field to continue their practice.
